Before you commission
Questions, answered plainly
Can I return my portrait if I change my mind?
No — and we are upfront about it on the product page and again at
checkout. Each piece is made to order with your photograph and your words, so it
is exempt from the 14-day distance-selling cancellation right under
Regulation 28(1)(b) of the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013. This is precisely
why you approve a true proof before engraving begins.
Faulty, damaged or mis-described goods are always repairable, replaceable
or refundable under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 — that protection is statutory
and unaffected.
How accurate is the proof I approve?
The proof is generated by the same engine and settings that drive the
laser — the letters you see are the letters to be engraved. Screens render tone
differently from frosted acrylic or anodised steel, so allow for the small, lovely
differences of a physical object; composition, text and likeness are exact.
What makes a good photograph?
Clear light, one or two sitters, and a subject that fills a good part
of the frame. Our studio isolates the subject from its background automatically and
will never crop anyone away. Images of at least 600 pixels on the short side give
the best detail.
How much text do I need?
A few words is enough — the engine repeats your text across the plate
(around 45,000 settings in all). Forty words or more gives the richest variety. You
can type directly or upload a .txt file.
How long until my piece arrives?
Proofs are ready within minutes of uploading. Engraving, finishing and
packing take 2–4 working days from payment; tracked UK delivery then takes a further
1–3 working days depending on the courier service selected at dispatch.
What are keyrings for?
Many families commission keyrings alongside a portrait for funerals,
weddings and births — the same artwork on a 50mm plate of the same material.
They are £12 each, three or more at £10, and can only accompany a portrait order.
What do you do with my photograph?
It is stored privately on our server, used only to make your piece,
never shared or used for marketing, and automatically deleted 90 days after dispatch
(unpaid drafts within 7 days). You can ask us to erase it sooner at any time —
see our privacy policy.
